THE BISHOP'S COMMITTEE
The “Bishop’s Committee” is the administrative body for St. Nicholas. It’s also called a “vestry” in some churches. At St. Nick’s, the committee consists of three representatives who are elected for staggered three-year terms at the church’s annual meeting held in January. In addition to the three representatives, the Committee also consists of a Bishop’s Warden (appointed by the Bishop as recommended by the Vicar), the Vicar, and the Bishop (it is rare for the Bishop to be present at a Committee meeting, but he is a member of the Committee). The Committee will select a Treasurer in their first meeting of each year who may or may not be a member of the Bishop’s Committee.
The Bishop’s Warden will lead the meetings in the absence of the Bishop or Vicar, and is also charged with leading the church in between Vicars.
The Committee meets monthly and helps to oversee the financial affairs of the church, along with other business issues. In churches with buildings, this group also has oversight of the building.
Our Bishop’s Committee typically meets on the third Wednesday of every month at the library at St. Tim's Episcopal Church in Aiea (98-939 Moanalua Rd) from 6:30-8:30pm. Everyone is welcome and invited to drop in on any meeting, even by Skype if you prefer! Contact us for more information.
