At St. Nicholas we care about children. We strive to provide a quality learning time for them that is fun and interactive. We care about them as individuals and we listen to them. We care about their souls, knowing that each one is also very valuable to God. Jesus said, “Let the children come unto me,” and we believe that children need opportunities to develop their own relationships with God: to learn to pray, to learn a little about scripture, and to experience Christianity in action.
Life can be stressful, even for little ones, and we want their experience at church to be relaxed and loving. If you have any questions, our clergy is always available, or call the church office at 753-7788.
KidZone is St. Nick’s gathering for children’s Sunday School. We have KidZone classes for Kindergarten through 5th graders. We currently use a curriculum called Hands-On Bible. From the Hand-On website: "It may look like a feather ball. But it's really a lesson about God's promises. Toss a feather ball in the air and it lands feathers up–every time. Just like God keeps his promises: every time...without fail! God wired your kids to learn by doing, not just watching. That's why even the best story-tellers and teachers eventually look out at a sea of glassy eyes. But when children get their hands on the colorful, child-friendly gizmos in the Hands-On Bible Curriculum Learning Lab...that's where Bible learning kicks into high gear! Hands-On Bible Curriculum taps into kids’ God-given desire to play. Experiment. Wiggle. Discover. Hands-On teaches the way kids learn best! Eyes light up with understanding. Kids’ hearts turn toward God. Their faces widen with bright, delighted smiles as they make the connection between a feather ball and the promises of an eternal God." For more information on Hands-On, visit their website.
KidZone classes begin at 10:00am and the kids are led back to the service just in time to take communion with their families. Each child is given a take-home page that reinforces that week’s lesson and that the whole family can do together over the week.
Our teachers are fantastic volunteers from our congregation who have a love for children, and the heart of a servant. They are given a full teacher’s curriculum guide which lists out exactly what to do each lesson, along with the items from the Learning Lab that will be used for that lesson. Hands-On Bible makes it extremely easy to step up and say: “I want to be a KidZone teacher!”
KidZone is offered every Sunday except the first Sunday of every month and all kids stay in church. During the month of July, the KidZone teachers take their summer break. We welcome all the children in service with us during this month.
